The twist and turns of romance intertwined with the power struggle of BDSM makes for a story I couldn't easily dismiss.

I bought this paperback from my independent bookstore because everyone is talking about it.
I caught a mention of it on the radio during my morning drive, glimpsed a headline during my internet surfing.
Add that up with being a New York Times Bestseller, as BDSM no less!, and a Good Reads pick, which just happens to be a site I am familiar with, and you have my attention.
I didn't even read the "dust jacket". All I had to hear was my mother commenting, "that book is pure porn, like the author wrote down every fantasy" and I was ready to hand over my money and enjoy the ride.
And what a ride it was. Per the cliche, I couldn't put it down. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it. Half way through I lamented to my husband that there was a very real possibility I would be mad at the end of it if the author managed to wuss out (they didn't) .... that is how invested I was in the characters!
The development of personality and interaction sucks at your psyche. Why DID he say that? Predictability is limited. And that's a good thing - you are constantly guessing, racing ahead in your thoughts, making the characters on the page more than a passing diversion.
No need to be a veteran BDSM or erotica reader either. With the story told from Anastasia's point of view, you learn with her - and even though she is one smart cookie, her frosting is bright white naivete!
I just finished book one in this triology last night, and now I am on the hunt for book two... don't really want to wait for shipping! Let's hope my local independent bookstore can hook me up.
Happy reading! Miranda @ Sweet Vernal Zephyr

Hi Miranda;
Thanks for giving us so much info on this book.
It's not my genre but I do enjoy reading about other books and why a reader might be interested in them. You did a fine job.

Thanks so much for delving into my head. It's scary in here sometimes, so it is nice to have company! Don't step on the zephyr...
